A Restaurant Celebrating Iberian Cuisine Will Debut in Boston’s South End This Spring

Fresh off of opening a new restaurant in Boston’s Back Bay, chef and owner Michael Serpa will dive right into a new project in the South End neighborhood. Serpa will debut Atlántico (stylized as atlántico) this spring at 600 Harrison Ave., adding to his lineup of restaurants that includes the acclaimed Select Oyster Bar (50 Gloucester St.) and now Grand Tour (314 Newbury St.) in Back Bay.

Atlántico takes over for Southern Proper, which closed at the end of 2019, and the space will be adapted to accommodate a cafe and restaurant with a 20-seat bar.

Serpa embraces traditions of the Iberian Peninsula for this next project. The food menu at Atlántico will consist of Spanish and Portuguese dishes, with a heavy focus on seafood. Diners can expect to see dishes like pintxos, tinned seafood, paella, and jamón ibérico, among other items.

As a complement to the food, wine served at Atlántico will come from Spain and Portugal, and the restaurant will offer house carafes and varieties of sherry. Atlántico’s bar menu will also include cocktails inspired by the bars of Spain and Portugal, with drinks heavily featuring gin, sherry, and vermouth.

The cafe portion of Atlántico will operate on weekday mornings, serving coffee from Little Wolf Coffee Roasters in Ipswich, along with house-made pastries, breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, and juices. There will be seating available for dining in, with customers invited to use the cafe as a workspace, and breakfast items will be available for takeout as well.
