When to consider eyelid surgery?
You might consider a blepharoplasty if droopy or sagging eyelids keep your eyes from opening completely or pull down your lower eyelids. Removing excess tissue from your upper eyelids can improve your vision. Upper and lower lid blepharoplasty can make your eyes appear younger and more alert.

What is eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)?
A blepharoplasty is a type of surgery that repairs droopy eyelids and may involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat. As you age, your eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under your eyes.
An upper lid blepharoplasty uses incisions to allow for removal of skin and/or fat on the eyelid for a younger-looking you. If you lids are starting to feel heavy or droop over the pupil of your eye, this may also improve your vision.
With lower lid blepharoplasty, Dr. Townsend will customize the approach to your lower eyelids based on your individual needs. Often there is fat that needs to be removed, which gets rid of the “bags” under your eyes, and then a little bit of skin is removed for a subtle tightening of the eyelids.
The overall goal of eyelid surgery is to still look age appropriate (maybe a little younger!), but very rested and healthy.
