Piattini Reopens Today with New Look and Modern Feel
The popular Newbury Street restaurant offers diners an authentic Italian experience in the heart of the Back Bay
BOSTON, MA – After having to temporarily close its doors in October after an electrical fire in the building affected the restaurant space, Piattini has officially reopened to the public with a completely renovated look and feel. Piattini’s highly anticipated re-opening showcases the restaurant’s sleek, new design, re-imagined menu, expanded beverage program, and trademark commitment to authentic Italian flavors and hospitality.
Designed by Owner Josephine Oliviero Megwa and Carlos Salib of SalibDesign, Piattini’s stylish new design exudes understated sophistication with Italian renaissance flair. The restaurant’s fresh look boasts an eye-catching, multi-wall Da Vinci-inspired mural; new wall and floor treatments; limestone and quartzite accents; and a remodeled, nine-seat bar spacious enough to accommodate their recently expanded craft cocktail program. The space seats 80 inside, including 14 seats in its private dining room, and 34 on its intimate, enclosed patio.
Piattini remains committed to using the finest ingredients, sourced locally and delivered fresh daily, reminiscent of the ones Josephine’s ancestors used to create the true, Italian flavors of yesterday while adding the creativity and diversity of today. The seasonally rotating menu continues to focus on hot and cold small plates, or piattini, while also providing a selection of regular-sized entrees.
The new menu will offer guests tried and true signature dishes that have been staples on Piattini’s menu for years as well as a variety of new ones. New dishes to Chef Luis Cano’s menu include: lemon and basil fettuccini with steamed clams and white wine pepper brodo; lemon breaded lamb chops with creamy polenta and smoked tomato confit; and a proscuitto flatbread with fig spread, arugula and goat cheese.
Piattini’s beverage program now offers an expanded selection of craft cocktails, including a peppermint bark martini and apple cider sangria, alongside its always exceptional wine list focused on small, independent labels. Piattini’s own wine label is offered, including a house Chianti Classico, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and Pinot Grigio. Known for its robust educational wine program, the experience of choosing from the vast selection of wines is enhanced as each glass is accompanied by a card detailing the region, tasting notes, and other pertinent information. Wine dinners will also be offered once every two months for guests.
Owner Josephine Oliviero Megwa said, “Having to close our doors after the fire at Piattini broke our hearts but we’ve found an important silver lining as a result- the unending support of our loyal guests and fans. From texts and calls to visits to the restaurant space, we have been truly moved by our community and by those who have made us feel encouraged and uplifted throughout the remodeling process. We are looking forward to welcoming those guests, as well as new, back into our restaurant and hope they are as excited about the changes as we are.”
